Nairobi, April 18, 2018: Stanbic Bank has announced a Sh. 2.5 million sponsorship for Eldoret’s maiden marathon to celebrate the North Rift region’s unending athletic talent over the years.
Billed to be Kenya’s most lucrative road race, with a combined prize money of Sh.13.5 million, the race will see winners in both the men and women’s 42km events pocket Sh3m each.
In partnership with the County Government of Uasin Gishu, Eldoret City Marathon will aim to place Eldoret City on the global map in athletic organization, with regards to organizational capacity to supplement the success of the athletes.
Stanbic Bank’s Chief Executive Charles Mudiwa says the Bank is happy to give back to the world’s most famous athletic cauldron.
“To keep churning more world-beating talent in the region, it is only fair that a region that has given so much joy to Kenyans and the world be feted with a race of its own to churn more talent in the region. Our sponsorship is intended to help provide a platform, in partnership with our partners, for upcoming talent that has lacked the chance to showcase their prowess due to inadequate structures,” said Mr. Mudiwa.
*Race director, former two-time Boston marathon legend, Moses Tanui, expressed confidence that the race will be a roaring success etched at the heart of racing folklore.
“We are going to make sure this race becomes one of the best in the region as well as in the athletics calendar as we continuously groom the next big athletes the chance to compete in an international event right at home,” says Tanui.
The race will also feature as a tourism and environmental conservation ensemble.
